I can’t say that I like hair masks better than face masks, but even so, I do love a good hair mask every now and then. This one is the Hydrate Complete Intensive Repair Mask by Vivify Advance Hair Care.
It comes in a spiffy pouch with a screw top spout? – we’ll just say opening. I’ve never tried one of these types of pouches before, so it was a new experience. I’d have to say that it’s a much better delivery system than a bottle because you’re able to get more out of it, plus it doesn’t take up as much “solid” room. The downside is that it lays flat, though it can stand on its own, as you use the product it’s more and more less inclined to do so without tipping over.
The hair mask is as you would imagine a deep conditioner – texture-wise and color-wise (or at least most that I have seen have been white). It has a really pleasant fruity fragrance that makes me kind of want to sniff it all day long… well maybe not, but maybe… depending on the mood, haha 😉
Product description via Amazon:
“VIVIFY HAIR THERAPY: Our healing blend of all natural and scientifically proven ingredients creates softer, healthier hair that can repel the damaging effects of blow drying, straightening, and curling. This enhanced protection is reached through a balance of proven ingredients from nature and science, that work in combination to improve the look, feel, and ease of styling of your hair. We start with 100% Andalucian Olive Oil for its high content of antioxidants, like polyphenols, Vitamins E & K, chlorophyll and carotenoids. The fruit of the olive tree provides the all natural oil that has been used for centuries by the people of Spain as a source of healing, skin & hair care treatment, and even as a vitamin rich food source. Next we add the unrivaled conditioning power of the cluster bean (gavar) plant, which is harvested from the far regions of the Indian subcontinent. The extract from this cluster bean plant hydrates deeply without the unpleasant polymer buildup or residue. This natural emulsifier is packed with protein, fiber and moisture which leaves a rich, silky feeling, and improves manageability and decreases tangles and frizz. We then add the healing anti-inflammatory benefits of Pro-Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) to reduce itching, irritation and dandruff. Vitamin B5 has been used in cosmetic products for years and for good reason, as it helps to break down skin oils that can clog up pores, prevent hair loss and add more volume and body to hair. Finally we include mineral oil, with it’s light and non greasy consistency it penetrates hair follicles and the scalp, improving moisture retention and adding luster & shine. Together this innovative formulation works on all hair types to give you complete hydration, without weighing your hair down. We guarantee results or your money back.” The package also states that it is “Gluten & Sulfate free, No parabens or phthalates” and “suitable for color-treated hair”.
As per directions, I was supposed to use this after shampooing, but instead used this before showering, on semi-dry hair and added water to it as I went along, just so that it wouldn’t be too dry and the product would evenly distribute from root to tip, especially since I have such long hair. It felt really lovely, silky and smooth. This mask was to be left on for 5-15 minutes and I did the max since I was using a face mask at the time and needed to wash that off within 15 minutes also. (Got to love multi-masking!!!)
As the minutes passed, since my hair wasn’t wet to begin with it, started to harden in places, but that’s purely my fault. No harm done, however. After the full 15 mins, I hopped in the shower to rinse it off – deciding to also forego any after-masking shampooing because then it would have defeated the purpose. As the water slushed through my hair, it felt like it was being detangled – like I had used a detangler. It was very smooth, the water going through it effortlessly. I semi-towel dried my hair and brushed it. I could feel some residue in my hair, so was worried that it would look streaky and/or greasy once it fully air dried, but it didn’t. It was soft and lofty, a little fuller, some of my normal fly-aways and frizzies were tamed a bit, but not all (and of course once the wind hit it, there was no hope for my fly-aways) and there was some added shine and softness, but not a considerable difference from how it is normally.
With the fragrance and the results, I have to say that I’m pretty impressed! My one wish is that it had some organic ingredients though, but that aside, I’d use this as an alternate to my go-to hair mask!
