Oz Naturals Ancient Orient Bamboo Dermafoliant

Formerly Oz Naturals Ancient Rice Enzyme Dermafoliant – name has been changed to – Ancient Orient Bamboo Dermafoliant. I think I like the former name better for some reason. Apparently, new name, same ingredients, but now with bamboo. But the bottle still has the old name, they’re probably just going through their inventory and then switching over to the new name when they do another production run.

Oz Naturals keeps to their branding, but they change the accent color depending on the product. I love the little bottle that this comes in, it reminds me of the vintage-style milk bottles. This one is all metallic. On top of the cover it has a sticker that says “Remove Red Plug Under This Cap”.

When I unscrewed it, I did see the red plug, but I’m not sure why I need to remove it. I’m guessing it’s there to keep the powder from spilling down over the top and down into the grooves of the cap. Otherwise, I have no clue as to if it has another purpose. I’m just going to leave it there, just in case it tips over.

Ingredients: Bambusa (bamboo) Arundinacea Stem Powder, Sucrose, Lactic Acid, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (green tea), Panthenol (form of Vitamin B5), Thioctic Acid*.

Product description via Oz Naturals:

“Exfoliation is quite possibly the most important step in a skin care routine. The reason it’s so important is because when using many anti-aging products that contain Vitamin C and Retinoids, the skin will begin to turn over newer skin cells much quicker, and when this happens they will accumulate on the surface of the skin unless something takes those dead skin cells away! Therefore, it is very important to rid the skin’s surface of these dead skin cells in order to gain the most efficacy from your anti-aging routine, and to allow your anti-aging products to penetrate all the layers of the skin. OZ Naturals Dermafoliant includes active ingredients such as Bamboo, Panthenol, and Lactic Acid which are not only effective at ridding the skin’s surface of unwanted dead skin, but also very gentle and nourishing for the skin as well. Since exfoliation is also key to having very soft, smooth skin your makeup will glide on and your skin will glow!”

As I mentioned this comes in a powdered form. It’s not a fine powder, it’s kind of gritty. If you’ve ever had to crush a pill, that’s what it reminds me of, but a little grittier.

It says to pour out a nickel amount within your palm, obviously the photo above is too much, then add a little water to create a thin paste.

Though it’s not really a paste, if you ask me.

The smell is not pleasant, it isn’t strong, but there is an earthy musty odor, like an old cellar or weathered and wet moss-grown-over wood, and dirty socks. Of Oz Naturals‘ products, this is my least favorite in scent.

I gently scrubbed my face with this in a circular motion, as it instructed. It was exfoliating, but one of the more abrasive feeling exfoliants. After the scrub, it was to be left on for 5 minutes. I do have to say that once I rinsed it off my face, my skin felt like it was new. It was a very smooth feeling, but a texture I haven’t yet felt after an exfoliation, so it’s really hard to describe.

The sandpaper abrasive exfoliation worried me because I have sensitive skin and that kind of abrasion usually leaves me with some dry, flaky patches the morning after, but this one did not. Though I didn’t like the roughness of the exfoliation and the scent of the “paste”, I did like the end results! This little bottle will probably last a while.

*Thioctic Acid is one that I didn’t know about, so have posted it on my Ingredients Research Post, if you’re interested in reading up a little on it.
