I’ve tried argan oil in the past, at least a few years ago, but it wasn’t 100% pure and smelled rather perfumy, so I gave it away. Because of that, I was a little hesitant to revisit with argan oil, but gave it a try anyway. This Pura d’or Argan Oil, I tested in just my hair for the past couple of weeks. It comes in a glass amber bottle with a gold foil label and a pump top.
Product description via Amazon: “USDA certified organic argan oil (100% pure) body, hair and face treatment; Imported from morocco; Bottled in the U.S.A. Argan oil is also known as Liquid Gold due to it being the most expensive and rarest cosmetic oil today. In fact, that is the literal translation of our brand name Pura d’or. Benefits: Anti-aging; Treat dry skin; eczema & psoriasis; Reduce facial blemishes; Reduce muscle pain; Reduce the appearance of scars; Effective moisturizer; Non oily, non-greasy & deep penetration; Reduce wrinkles; Treat dark circles under eyes; Mild anti-bacterial; Treat dry, brittle, frizzy & damaged hair; Protect from cold winds, pollutions & smoke. Argan oil is all natural, cold pressed from the Argan tree native to South-western Morocco. No chemicals added and safe for all hair, skin and body types.”
The oil is as you would imagine one to be – that slightly golden/yellow color, but lighter weight than a cooking oil. The smell of this argan oil is not what I expected. I’ve worked with a lot of unprocessed fiber and wools in the past and they have lanolin within it – my hands, clothes, and skin used to be covered in it. This oil sort of reminds me of that lanolin, kind of barn-yardish, but not nearly as pungent as this scent is very slight. However, after the oil absorbs into the hair or skin the scent is undetectable.
I used about 2-4 pumps of the oil in my hair before bed. Using my fingers to distribute it from the tips of my hair to the root for a few minutes, massaging it into the strands. Then I’d take a few minutes brushing it, just to try to distribute it even more. Here’s an example of before (1st photo) application and after (2nd photo).
Another look at after (click to enlarge):
It is slightly oily, not too much, but my preference was to do this only before bed and then wash it off in the morning. I’ve notice a difference in my hair texture, it’s softer and a little shinier. I still have split ends and flyaways, but it does look slightly healthier overall.
I plan on trying this on my skin next to see what, if any, results come of it.
Is Argan Oil a hype? What do you think? Have you tried any argan oil products?
