VIA CosMedics UltraMUD

20160109_015505Face masks are so awesome, except when they burn like a mofo!!!

This VIA CosMedics Exfoliating & Clarifying UltraMUD Treatment contains a blend of Bentonite and Kaolin clays, but has a lot of acid in it. Also, when you open it up, it needs to be stirred since some liquid forms at the top and the clays settle to the bottom. But it’s this cool purply/greyish mud color when not stirred.

Product description per the jar: “A scientifically formulated clearing mask containing a special blend of Bentonite and Kaolin clay visibly extracts impurities from the pores. Bentonite clay is derived from aged volcanic ash, and combined with Kaolin clay, formed from natural weathering of rocks within the moist climates of France. he mask is strategically enhanced with a 6% advanced AHA & BHA acid complex, age-fighting exfoliators, botanicals, and natural fruit extracts. The combination of these hand-picked ingredients provides synergistic anti-aging, anti-oxidant, and anti-bacterial benefits, as well as natural collagen enhancement.

20160110_215619Upon application, instead of a nice soothing, relaxing mud bath for my face like I expected, it was more like a chemical peel with intense burning. After I finished application, the burning was so intense, luckily the directions were to leave it on just for 2-3 minutes, at that point it was about that (thank goodness). Then I was to spend 1-2 minutes rinsing it off using circular motions. It says you can increase the duration to 5-10 minutes as your face adapts a tolerance to the product. With all of that burning, I expected my face to be bright red, like a beet, but it wasn’t it just felt a like I had a sunburn. My skin was very smooth with only minor peeling on my nose. This was before bed, so I applied a heavy moisturizer, went to sleep, and the next morning, my facial skin looked more taunt, and the pores a little smaller. I could see a visual difference, though again there was some peeling on and around my nose. Except for that intense burning feeling, this was a great mask and kept my skin smooth. What’s even more, is that when applying my foundation in the morning, I totally forgot to use a foundation primer because I was in a rush (except spraying my beauty blender with Smashbox’s Primer Water), and it was like I didn’t even need it! So yeah, I may be able to tolerate the burning, if it does that!
