Go Nutrients‘ Thyroid Edge is a dietary supplement that helps support healthy thyroid function by targeting and helping to alleviate some of the symptoms that are caused by hypothyroidism.

Per Woman’s Health: “Hypothyroidism is when your thyroid does not make enough thyroid hormones. It is also called underactive thyroid. This slows down many of your body’s functions, like your metabolism. […] Symptoms of hypothyroidism develop slowly, often over several years. At first, you may feel tired and sluggish. Later, you may develop other signs and symptoms of a slowed-down metabolism, including: Feeling cold when other people do not; Constipation; Muscle weakness; Weight gain, even though you are not eating more food; Joint or muscle pain; Feeling sad or depressed; Feeling very tired; Pale, dry skin; Dry, thinning hair; Slow heart rate; Less sweating than usual; A puffy face; A hoarse voice; More than usual menstrual bleeding; You also may have high LDL or ‘bad’ cholesterol, which can raise your risk for heart disease.”

According to Go Nutrients‘ Thyroid Edge is: “all natural liquid herbal extract” that is “proven effective to: Help increase levels of iodine vital for a healthy thyroid, Support production of T3 and T4 hormones, Help energize your body and battle fatigue.  [The top 3 herbal components of the formula…] Bladderwrack Thallus – A form of kelp these iodine rich algae are known to help promote normal functions of the thyroid by encouraging healthy metabolism. 20151130_001800-1I received this product complimentary in exchange for an honest review. It was packaged and shipped via Amazon and there were no issue.  The liquid supplement comes in the typical amber bottle to protect the contents from damaging UV rays, and it also has the rubber dropper top. The color of the liquid is brown, similar to a light soy sauce, but lighter with no visual sediment.

The scent of it reminds me of Braggs Liquid Aminos (which I would describe as being like a healthier, more rugged, version of soy sauce), though, to be honest, I haven’t had Braggs in a while, so my memory may be off. The taste is also reminiscent of it (if my memory serves me correctly), but on the sweeter and earthy side, and not salty. To me it’s a taste that you have to get used to, not completely pleasant initially.

A thing to note is that on the bottle it says that the suggested use is “1/4 teaspoon (1/23 mL) 1 to 3 times a day or as needed”. I believe the “1/23 mL” should actually read “1.23 mL” which would be equivalent to about 24-25 drops.  On Amazon, they state the directions as: “1/4 teaspoon (approx. 15-20 drops) 1 to 3 times a day, or as needed” If you didn’t read through all of the information on Amazon, you might miss the number of drops, which I think is important considering that the mode of transport for the liquid is a dropper and it does not have a line to where you should fill to. And in my opinion, it would kind of defeat the purpose of a dropper to drip it into a measuring spoon.

Also, I’m not sure if adding it to tea diminishes the effect of the herbs, but that is how I’ve been taking it. Erringly, my first time using it, I tried this at night in my tea right before bed — don’t do this– it kept me up practically the whole night. When taken properly, first thing in the morning is a good idea, it does seem to kickstart your energy. While I don’t have hypothyroidism, I’m taking it more for the similar symptoms that I experience, such as fatigue, hair loss, thinning hair, dry skin, muscle and joint pain, thin nails, low metabolism, and occasional constipation.  I’ve only been taking it for a little over a week, so need to give it more time to see if it helps in other areas aside from energy.
