Nouveau Cheap posted this brilliant brush cleaning mat hack not too long ago (yesterday?) in Instagram. Prior to her post, I was going back and forth on whether I should get the one from Sigma (Sigma Spa Express Brush Cleaning Mat for $25) or the one that Online Beauty Finds posted about (BomBeauty Makeup Bom for $15) earlier this month.
I’m always down for a good deal, especially when it works just as well. Determined to find these silicone pot holders from the dollar store yesterday, I ended up going to multiple stores around the city in search. First Dollar General, then Dollar Tree, and finally, as I was about to give up, I found this one at Family Dollar. They had black, and blue, so I got one of each. It’s a pretty good size 7.5″ x 7.5″ and cost $2 each + tax.
Love it! All you have to do is add your brush cleaner, whatever you use, a bit of water, and swirl/run your brushes over it gently and it cleans them like a charm. You don’t have to press down hard, the little honeycombs do the trick nicely. I also tried cleaning my beauty blender (I have Real Techniques’ version) on it and it worked really quickly and well – color me impressed! I think these will be a great Christmas gift addition for some of my makeup artist and enthusiast friends!
On another note, non-beauty related, tomorrow is Veteran’s Day, so I wanted to take the time to thank all the Veteran’s and Active Duty men and women out there for your service to our country! My husband is retired military, served for 24 years — almost 15 of which we spent together married; my father and brother also served in the military; so I know what effect it has on both the service person and their families first hand! If you’re out and about tomorrow, please take the time to thank a Veteran! Hip2Save has a great post on quite a bit of companies in the US that have offers specifically for Veterans. Happy Early Veteran’s Day! Enjoy!
